"The Cream of Irish Ale"

A distinct ale with a smooth and full-flavoured taste. That's Kilkenny. Now available at over 200 outlets across Malaysia.

All Ale Tale

A Distinct Heritage

Let's start with how it all began.
Kilkenny originated from the city of Kilkenny in Ireland.

While other ales were born in breweries, we were born in an abbey called the St. Francis Abbey. Using natural ingredients around the Abbey and water from the St. Francis Well, the Franciscan monks began brewing their own ale since the 13th century. After 300 years, the Abbey was forced to close its doors during Henry VIII's reign. By then it didn't matter; the people of Kilkenny had already developed the brewing skill and discerning taste for superior ale.

The Smithwick Family

Enticed by Kilkenny's reputation, John Smithwick moved to the city in 1705 to start a brewery. As fate would have it, it was founded on St. Francis Abbey grounds. Under the management of the Smithwick family, the St. Francis Abbey Brewery enjoyed recognition year on year, century after century, for its high-quality output.

James Smithwick took charge in 1900 at a time when the brewery's fortunes were at an all-time low - and made the brave decision to focus on ale. He surmised that if he was to continue brewing, it was going to be the best the world would ever taste.

The Cream of Irish Ale

Kilkenny has become one of Ireland's most internationally successful beers. Still brewed at the renowned St. Francis Abbey Brewery, Kilkenny employs only the most skilled people in its production. Both the raw ingredients and final brew are meticulously examined, ensuring quality that is second to none.

Taste of Kilkenny

Taste

Smooth and creamy with a gentle balance of bitterness from hops, sweetness from the ale malt and a hint of roasted coffee from the roasted barley.

Aroma

Clean and delicate with different individual notes:

Fruit Top fermentation by the Kilkenny's Yeast creates a fruity aroma.
Floral The Aroma Hops added late in the boil contribute to clean, fresh floral notes.
Malty Ale Malt contributes to hints of biscuit and caramel aroma.

The Perfect Pint

Kilkenny's Two-Part Pour

To enjoy a perfect pint of Kilkenny, the most important factor aside from the quality of the ale itself, is the pour.

The legendary Two-Part Pour begins with picking up a clean and dry Nonic glass.
Hold the glass at a 45° angle close to the tap when first drawing the ale to prevent too much of bubbles from forming in the head.
Fill the glass with the tap fully opened.
Pause when the glass is ¾ full.
Allow ample time for the ale to settle completely when the head is separate from the rich, red body.
Hold the glass level and top if off.
